An Overview on Finished Furniture
If you take a look around your workspace, note that the tops and exteriors of all the office and laboratory furniture in the area are constantly exposed to specific wear and tear based on their uses. It’s critical when designing or managing a lab to bear this in mind. And it’s wise to be well-versed in what types of materials are used when ordering factory direct workspace furniture. RDM has different types of standard top finish options as well as a variety of custom choices depending on your lab’s design and usage.
Types of Finishing Options Available
There is a multitude of options when it comes to cabinet finish options. Review them here, but always feel free to contact a service staff team member to walk you through any particulars or specs you require. RDM’s custom counters and cabinets are proudly manufactured in the USA, and we ship nationwide no matter the scale of your order.
RDM Industrial Products, Inc specializes in several types of surface finishing options:
-
Top Finish Options:
Plastic Laminates. Our plastic laminates come in a variety of standard sizes and colors. Most of which can be applied to most of our furniture options. We also have Static Dissipative (ESD) laminates and specific chemical resistant laminates in case you are working with caustic substances.
Wood Tops. If you like the natural look and feel of wood, RDM has both Hard Board Masonite. As well as a laminated hardwood (think butcher block style) for tabletops, counters and workspaces. These offer the warmth of real wood with the prized protection that laminates and epoxies provide.
Metal Tops. Metal is always an appropriate material in a lab environment. It is often appreciated for its sterility and clean-ability. RDM specializes in various steel tops if you prefer metal for your laboratory or industrial zone. Stainless or galvanized steel are standard trusty options. But if color is what you’re looking for, we can customize a painted steel solution for your space.
Solid Surface Tops. There are also numerous composites, epoxies and resins that can be applied to your work surfaces to protect them. If you are going to the trouble of ordering new furniture, you need it to last! RDM specializes in chemical and heat resistant solid surfaces using this application, so inquire if resin or Trespa (TM) could work in your space.
-
Paint & Powder Options:
Paint & powder options are generally lumped together in one category since they both require the application of a hardening substance as the protective barrier. Our paint options are applied using professional spray tools, and are available in a variety of colors. The powders are applied in a controlled setting and are heat-treated to bond onto the furniture surface. Both are great bonus protective choices for metal furnishings – including cabinetry and fume/exhaust hoods.
-
Other Finishing Options:
The most common alternate finish option we offer is Panolam (TM) Melamine Surfaces which provide a more satiny feel without losing any of the required durability.
Synthetic finishes are ideal for high-traffic zones and can be accommodated for a variety of budgets.
-
Table Mats:
In case the finishing options we offer aren’t enough, RDM also makes and ships standard and custom table mats for your tops as a final added level of protection.
Custom Counters and Cabinets
Highly protective and durable finishes aren’t just for tabletops and workstations. You’ll want to consider the finishes for your laboratory cabinetry as well. Although all our standard tables and cabinet finish options are top-of-the-line. You may want to opt for a custom finishing job on your lab furniture, as it might be necessary if you choose custom cabinets. It all depends on how your team will be using the equipment and what type of finish would be appropriate for these projects.
