Work benches are an important fixture of any workplace. Even if the business is not normally associated with a particular craft having a work bench in the office can be a major asset. Work benches act both as a center of whatever work is being done, and provide a good place to check out new procedures. If the business is associated with a craft, such as woodworking or tone carving, then it can also be used to demonstrate new tools and techniques. A group of clever employees backed by a willing supervisor can no doubt find a lot of use for such a station.
Industrial workbenches are the best converted to such an idea bench. They come with a variety of different drawers and power outlets, making them perfect for display purposes. If the supervisor is willing the workbench can be converted to an “idea bench” where employees can work together to find better ways of doing things during what little spare time they have. This can also be used to develop new techniques for specific problems. The advantage to setting aside a specific workstation for this is that it does not need to be cleaned off until the problem has been solved and the equipment can be left out as needed.
Another reason for using industrial workbenches for such a spare workspace is for display purposes. Industrial businesses usually buy tools and other items from outside vendors. These outside vendors need an area to demonstrate their goods, which can either make life easier for those involved or show them advances in the craft in question. Having an area set aside for vendors, including power outlets if so needed, can help the vendors better display their wares without disrupting work. This allows the workers to update their tools if needed and gets the vendor in and out as quickly as possible.
This applies to laboratory workbenches as well. Not only do lab technicians have to deal with communal problems as well but it makes excellent busywork for a new technician. Having a specific location for vendors is even more applicable as the workbench can be set outside areas that are otherwise restricted, thus allowing a vendor to show off his wares in the building itself where everyone that needs to see them can do so. This additional security will no doubt make all of those involved feel a little more secure.
These spare lab workbenches can aid security in other means as well. They provide a way to show off for the top brass that limits intrusions into the main lab area itself. Also, because these lab workbenches can be set up specifically for any needed demonstrations it means that the actual laboratory workbenches can be left in their usual state of clutter rather than having to be cleaned up for the purposes of a single demonstration. Monitors and dedicated computers can also be set up specifically for additional materials and graphic information, making the demonstration much better organized without having to disturb regular workflow more than needed.
All of this makes setting up an addition workbench well worth it for any business, especially those need to deal with onsite vendors or routine demonstrations.. Even if the business does not normally have a reason for a workbench, it does allow for a nice little spot that is outside the normal flow of business and can be used for whatever demonstration or instruction is needed, and if placed right can help deal with security issues as well. The additional space can help make life so much easier on so many levels, making for a much more effective workplace.
