Laminar Air Flow Hoods have a HEPA (High efficiency particulate air) filter; are made from Formica or stainless steel and are used to prepare IV solutions which require a sterile and germ-free environment. These devices will separate the air that flows through the hood in layers. The air is cleansed of bacteria and microorganisms. Laminar flow hoods are also used in medical facilities to protect patients with compromised or weak immune systems.
HIGH END LAMINAR AIR FLOW HOODS
- The hoods have a HEPA filter that can remove a 0.3 micron particle size. These
filters should be changed every month. Inspections should be made every 6 months
to make sure they are in proper working condition.
- Make sure, for your operational-cost-savings, your company invests in the type of
flow hood that has a Dual DC motor, as it gives off low heat emission.
- During the night there is a special “Night Set-Back” feature on the more expensive
hoods which greatly reduces airflow by 30%. The lab window must be closed so as to
extend filter life, while protecting your lab work or patient.
TYPES AND USAGE
Horizontal and Vertical Hoods
- A laminar hood in which the air is passed through a filter, horizontally toward
the user, will maintain a sterile environment. It’s not necessary to wear a gown
or double set of gloves when working in horizontal hoods.
- A laminar flow hood pushes the air through a filter vertically, protecting the
user from exposure to all types of harmful materials. Special clothing and gloves
are required for protection by the user.
- Laminar air flow hoods work in the following places so as to provide a suitably
clean and germ-free environment:
1) An operating room
2) A hospital room
3) A pharmacy
4) A doctor’s office
SAFETY AND PROTECTION
Dual motor air hoods are designed to automate both the airflow balance and compensation. An airflow system should be in place so as to alert the user to restrictions that are excessive and unwarranted.
ERGONOMICS AND CONVENIENCE
Scientists and doctors become more efficient in their working environment if the tools they use are advanced and ergonomically designed. These devices are manufactured and assembled in such a way that people can employ them safely and without any effort. At all times high end parts and quality of the hood make it convenient for usage. The hood has an added convenience in that it provides clean routing for the vacuum tubes and cables. Its therm-o-dynamic and the smart, clean window, will allow for safe access and accommodate the user to reach for the upper work chambers when necessary.
Outside of a wide range of ductless flow hoods, there are also workstations and clean benches that are available in many sizes to create a particle-free Class 100 (ISO 5) environment; an environment containing no more than 100 particles and 5 microns or larger per cubic foot. There are also mobile workstations with flow hoods that can be interchanged, as well as custom made laminar flow hoods with a variety of blueprints to accommodate numerous applications.
